- Military Service - volunteered for draft into United States Army in 1966, honorably discharged in 1968, served as combat infantryman, combat infantry squad leader, on primarily patrol missions, search and destroy missions and combat assault missions from helicopter; and other volunteer missions including long range reconnaissance patrols with LRRPS behind enemy lines to locate enemy; hunter/killer teams lead by war dog handlers to track and kill enemy; tunnel rat into underground enemy tunnels and bunkers for concealment of enemy; aerial observer of enemy positions and movements from airplane and helicopter to coordinate infantry and artillery engagement of enemy; attaining rank of sergeant in 4th Infantry Division in central highlands in jungles and mountains along Vietnam/Cambodia border in Vietnam war for one year from 1967 to 1968; during tour of duty in Vietnam war wounded 3 times by enemy fire during fire fights, by mortar attack on platoon in jungle during search and destroy operation, by improvised explosive devise attack on truck convoy on dirt road during military show of force operation, by rocket propelled grenade attack on artillery fire support base while guarding perimeter from enemy attack, awarded combat infantryman's badge, refused purple heart, refused bronze star for valor, refused battlefield commission to rank of second lieutenant by General William Westmoreland and refused direct appointment to West Point Military Academy by General William Westmoreland (General Westmoreland was commander of all military forces in Vietnam war from beginning of war in 1964 to 1968)
- Military Training - in United States Army served as acting corporal squad leader (10+ soldiers) in 8 week basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; attended 2 week combat leadership academy (50+ soldiers) at Fort Polk Louisiana "Vietnam Tiger Land", achieved 2nd honor graduate (Johnny Bench Cincinnati Redlegs Hall of Fame catcher was 1st honor graduate); served as acting captain company commander (250+ soldiers) for 19 weeks advanced infantry training at Fort Polk Louisiana "Vietnam Tiger Land"; awarded soldier trainee of cycle out of 20,000+ soldiers simultaneously receiving advanced infantry training for highest total scores on mental tests, physical tests, all phases of advanced infantry training and commanding officer oral boards of top finalists out of 20,000+ soldiers; pulled out of "humpin the boonies" while serving as rifleman in infantry company in Pleiku Province Vietnam to attend 2 week combat leadership academy (50+ soldiers) for soldiers who were already awarded combat infantryman's badge at 4th infantry division headquarters and achieved 1st honor graduate for which General William Peers promoted from corporal to sergeant and then sent back out to "hump the boonies" as a combat leader (General Peers was commanding general of 4th infantry division and later presided over United States Army Peers Commission into United States Army handling of 1968 My Lai massacre incident)
